Kum Nye Tibetan Yoga

“In modern times, confusion, chaos and over stimulation have become such a feature of daily activity that we are often too tense and charged up to enjoy life. Kum Nye works to counter this effect: opening our senses and our hearts so that we feel satisfied and fulfilled, able to appreciate every aspect of our lives more fully. By practising Kum Nye we can enrich the quality of our experience as we learn to live more harmoniously.”
Tarthang Tulku

Touching Body Energy

Kum Nye (pronounced koom neeay) comes from the Tibetan Buddhist medical system and was introduced to the west by Tarthang Tulku who set up the Nyingma Institute in Berkeley, California. His father was a doctor as well as a lama and he adapted the ancient exercises for presentation to a western audience, without losing their authenticity and effectiveness.

Like all oriental yogas, Kum Nye deals with the subtle (energy) body. The physical body of flesh and blood is known in Tibetan as lu. The subtle body is called ku. So, Ku-m Nye means ‘massage of or interaction with the subtle body’. Through simple movements, performed very slowly, combined with focused attention and soft, gentle breathing, the subtle body is balanced, integrated, stimulated and transformed. The exercises are suitable for adults of all ages and levels of fitness. Chronic patterns of muscular tension in the physical body are massaged by the movements, which results in releasing the energy locked in them, and re-distributing it around the body.

The exercises are like symbols of a process that is happening simultaneously in the physical mental and emotional ‘bodies’ - and this is reflected in their names: Loosening up the Self Image; Swimming in Space; Relieving Negativity; Energising the Lower Body, Building Strength and Confidence, and so on.

What people say about Kum Nye:

"In the seven years I have had M.E. Kum Nye is the only exercise system that has never caused relapse. I think this is because of the slowness of the movements and the pace of the whole day. This allows me to progress with confidence to more advanced postures and improve my flexibility and balance. I have been practising Kum Nye for a year now and it definitely has had a beneficial effect on my general health and sense of well being."
Carol Rance, Trowbridge, Wiltshire

"Recently I went to Caroline Sherwood’s Kum Nye Tibetan Relaxation and Meditation Whole Day Class in Wells. I arrived feeling somewhat tensed and stressed. When I left I felt relaxed and calm! I look forward to attending the next one soon!"
Gabrielle Hector, Wedmore, Somerset

"I am amazed that the Kum Nye exercises are so calming and stress relieving for such a long period. Any other 'stress relief' exercises I have done have shorter periods of relief. My back pain has not returned."
Roger Kergozou, Cheddar, Somerset

Coordinating Body and Mind

The fullness of the Kum Nye experience makes mind and senses very sensitive and tender; perceptions become smooth and clear, and the feelings that they awaken transmit sweetness and warmth throughout your being.

The Stones that Sing
Manifesting the Voice of Earth
A Talk and Meditation
With
Tareth and Caroline Sherwood

Tuesday 9 September 2008 at 7.30 p.m.

Georges Room, Isle of Avalon Foundation, 2-4 High Street, Glastonbury

On the 3rd July 2008 Tareth and a group Manifested sounds from one of the Standing stones of Avebury. These sounds were recorded.

Tareth will speak about this momentous event and what it means. The Sacred power sites have started to channel energy and information for the spiritual evolution that is coming: new connections with the conscious universe and our part in its future.

The sounds carry information and guidance; they are a calling to those who work with the light. They can awaken the deep soul wisdom in everyone and help the process of bringing harmony and healing.

Tareth will speak about the long term project and how it can be used by all those who wish to help the future.

There will be a meditation using the sounds.

There is no charge for this event, but donations are welcome.
